FG okays duty-free imports for medical equipment
ABUJA—The Federal Government has announced that
importation of medical equipment for hospitals and
medical centres will henceforth be duty-free.
The Minister of Health Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu
who represented President Jonathan disclosed this at
the official opening of Lifebridge Medical Diagnostic
Centre in Abuja.
The Minister said the policy was an incentive and
encouragement to investors in the Health Sector of
the nation. He observed that the equipment at the
centre are world class and commended the Chairman
of the Centre, Senator I.G. Abana for the huge
investment he made.
He observed that with the availability of such state of
the art equipment, there was no need for Nigerians
to travel abroad for medical check and treatment
which will be obtained in the country at cheaper cost.
Some of the personalities who were present at the
occasion include Dr. Rul Garma, representative of
World Health Organization, WHO in Nigeria, Dr.
Ibrahim, Registrar Nigerian Mental and Dental
Council and Justice Allagoa of the Federal High Court.
